At the moment there are only three of us: Eileen Armstrong of Ord, Roger Cottis of Isleornsay and James Merryweather of Auchtertyre. However, on Thursday 20th October we presented our plans to the Sleat community, asking people express their interest in joining us, and we hope soon to have become more numerous. We very much need people with skills we three don't have and people to implement them.

Like its predecessor, the Scottish Salmon Think-Tank (SST-T), the South Skye Seas Inintiative (SSSi) is a part of Skye & Lochalsh Environment Forum (SLEF), which has the status of Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). This is not only a pleasant collaboration, but also a practical measure, ensuring that in in the event of a financial catastrophe members of SSSi will be protected from unwarranted liability.

Overseen by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and SLEF, SSSi is collaborating with neighbouring coastal community marine conservation initiative Sea Change, Wester Ross (SCWR) for substantial Heritage Lottery funding. We recently heard that our bid passed stage 1, so we are all cautiously optimistic.
